Ringgold Elementary 5th grade teacher, Ms. Melissa McKown, was recently recruited to serve on the University of Tennessee at Knoxville Board of Advisors to the College of Education, Health, and Human Science. She spent two days in late March discussing, meeting with other board members from around the country including Florida and California, and honoring outstanding educators. Furthermore, the board heard from doctoral students from UTK in the field of education and other related areas. Various topics facing the future of education were discussed, as were issues in related fields such as health care for immigrant students and theoretical changes in early childhood education. This group of advisors meets twice annually as a board to guide the educational program at UTK. Board members are selected by invitation only and must be recommended by the dean of the college. McKown was chosen due to her outstanding work in education and related fields and her strong connection to the University of Tennessee. RES is honored to have such a talented and well-respected educator serving Catoosa's students and congratulates Melissa McKown for this great accomplishment.
