Superintendent Denia Reese receives GMEA award

Catoosa County Public Schools Superintendent Denia Reese received the Georgia Music Educator’s Association (GMEA) Administrative Leadership Award. This is a very prestigious award to recognize significant leadership by system level administrators in support of music education. Candidates for the award must demonstrate ongoing encouragement and support for music education for all students to be considered.

Catoosa County GMEA members and the Catoosa County Board of Education nominated Mrs. Reese for this award. Ringgold High School’s Director of Bands, who received the 2015 GMEA Music Educator Award, said, “Superintendent Reese supports music in elementary, middle, and high schools. She has been determined to maintain music education programs, to provide materials, and to maintain excellent facilities. In addition to supporting our music education program with resources, she regularly attends football games to watch marching bands. She also attends band and choral concerts, and she thoroughly enjoys the students’ performances. She never fails to follow-up with a personal, ‘Thank you’ to the teachers, students, and parents for their contributions and support.”

Superintendent Reese said, “I was overwhelmed with this award. I believe it is very important for all of our students to have the opportunity to participate in music programs, bands, and chorus.”

She added, “When I looked around the room of music educators at the 2015 GMEA Convention, I thought, ‘I bet I’m the only one here who can’t play an instrument, read music, or even sing on tune.’ While I received an award, the folks in that room were the ones who are really making a difference for kids.”
