Catoosa County Public Schools has contracted to purchase approximately 1.9 acres and a 10,000 square foot building on Cassidy Lane in Ringgold to relocate the system’s maintenance department. The maintenance department is currently located on the Ringgold High School campus.

Superintendent Denia Reese said, “Moving our transportation and maintenance departments to more modern facilities was a goal for the Board of Education. Property was purchased in 2014, with ESPLOST funds, to relocate the transportation department. The Board will also use ESPLOST funds to purchase this property.”

Superintendent Reese discussed the benefits of the new maintenance facility. The property is centrally located in Ringgold, and it is adjacent to the transportation building. The building features a large open interior, additional space for storage, and large roll-up doors to access all sides of the building. The property is fenced, paved, and well lit for security. An added benefit is that this building is more energy efficient than the current location.

She added, “We were very fortunate to find a building that is perfect for the current and future needs of our maintenance department that is adjacent to our transportation department. This property is ready for us to move in without additional investment. The $1.35 million purchase price is significantly less than purchasing property, building a modern facility, paving the lot, and fencing the property.”

Mrs. Reese said that purchasing this property also achieves one of the Board’s strategic plan objectives to maintain facility equitability. She said, “Moving the maintenance department will restore property on the Ringgold campus for Ringgold Middle School to build a baseball and softball field. RMS is the only middle school that doesn’t have fields for students. Their teams have to travel to Boynton recreation and Jack Mattox fields to practice and to play home games. To provide facility equitability, fields for RMS will be included in the ESPLOST V referendum. ESPLOST V will be presented to citizens for approval on March 1, 2016.”

In addition to providing a modern facility for maintenance and athletic fields for Ringgold Middle School, moving this building from the Ringgold campus will also improve student safety because there will be less outside traffic on the campus during school hours.

Superintendent Reese added, “This is a win-win opportunity. Our maintenance department moves to a modern facility that is a great investment for taxpayers. Ringgold Middle School students will finally have home fields for baseball and softball. And, the relocation improves safety on the Ringgold campus.”
