Melvin Edwards retires from Catoosa County Board of Education

On December 6, 2016, the Catoosa County Board of Education and Superintendent Denia Reese hosted a reception to celebrate Melvin Edwards’ years of service in Catoosa County Public Schools as an educator and a board member.

Mr. Edwards began working in the school system as a teacher at Ringgold Junior High School in 1960. He became assistant principal in 1963 and principal in 1969. He served as principal of Ringgold Junior High until he came to the county office in 1988. After retiring from the school system, Mr. Edwards ran for school board. He served District 4 from 1994-2002, and he has served as the board member at large since 2005. Melvin Edwards has dedicated his life and his career to public education in Catoosa County.

To commemorate his 54 years of service in the school system, the Catoosa County Board of Education will name the board of education office on 307 Cleveland Street the Melvin R. Edwards Administrative Building. Superintendent Denia Reese said, “Melvin has worked faithfully and diligently as an employee and board member to make Catoosa County Public Schools a premier school system in the state of Georgia. Since I’ve worked with him as superintendent, Melvin has always focused on doing what is best for children in our schools. He leaves a legacy of excellence, and I think seeing his name on our building every day will remind us of our responsibility to serve our children and community.”
