The
Principal's Message...Last
week we celebrated Renaissance Week at LMS. Renaissance is a
program that recognizes students that have nothing below a C in all
classes and have good behavior. Almost 70% of our students
qualified for a card the second nine-weeks of school.
Congratulations,
parents and LMS students. Parents, February 24 will be the kickoff
date for our school-wide fundraiser. Money generated from this
fundraiser supports students, teachers and programs at LMS. Your
involvement and support
are
critical.

Renaissance
- February 2 through 6 was a week of celebration
for the Renaissance Program and its members. The week had a sports
theme with different activities for each day, ending with an assembly on
Friday that was a sports extravaganza! Students and teachers
competed in some age old sporting events with a few twists.
Lay-ups in wigs and high heels, dizzy bat races in baseball uniforms,
adults racing on tricycles, a sumo-suit obstacle course, and a dance
contest that featured only a few legitimate dancers. Both faculty
and students walked away with prizes and recognition for things they had
achieved throughout the year. It was one Renaissance week that was
a GRAND SLAM!!

Band - Dear
Parents!
We had a great time at
District Honor Band this weekend. The students were very
well-behaved and represented our school well. One of our 7th grade
trumpet players made All-State Band and he will be making the trip to
Savannah, Ga., in March to represent our school.
The 7th and 8th
grade students will be going to Large Group Performance Evaluation
(Festival) on March 12. We will also have some after-school
rehearsals starting this month. Please ask your students about
this! A letter will be sent home this week with more
information/dates/times.
It's
always a blessing to come to work at LMS.
Your kids are doing great and thank you for encouraging them to
continue with our successful music program here at Lakeview!

Infinite
Campus -Catoosa
County Public Schools is introducing a student information system called
Infinite Campus that includes a parent portal feature. The parent portal
allows parents to view their child's grades, schedule, attendance, and
assessment scores over the internet. If
you are interested in gaining access to this information, sign the request
for a application, fill out the form, and return it to your child's school
by your child or mail it directly to LMS.
Let's Eat -
Lunch $1.80, reduced $.40
Breakfast $1.00, reduced $.30
Did
you know that the lunches served at school offer a choice of five
vegetables and fruits EVERY DAY from which your student may select up to
FOUR?
AND.. Did you know that every week lunches are
planned so that at least two orange vegetables, two green vegetables and
two legumes are offered, while starchy vegetables are limited?
To learn more how vegetables are categorized, “Google” the word
“My Pyramid” on the Internet and then select “Inside the Pyramid”
(left side).
When the Pyramid pops up, click on the green site for vegetable
categories.
Did
you know that breakfasts and lunches served at school are including more
whole grains these days? For
example, oatmeal is offered daily at breakfast along with whole wheat
toast and several “ready-to-eat” whole grain cereals.
Whole wheat rolls are frequently served
at lunch
Whole
grains are a good addition to any menu at home too.
When shopping, be sure the
first ingredient listed on the label has the word WHOLE in it: WHOLE wheat
flour, for example. The
magic word is “WHOLE”. Selecting
WHOLE wheat and WHOLE grain breads, pastas and cereals is a great way to
increase fiber in the diet. “Make
half your grains WHOLE” is one of the recommendations from USDA’s
MyPyramid.
At LMS-
Ice cream, snacks, and beverages are available in the break areas.
Carbonated drinks and non-nutritional food may not be purchased until 1:30
p.m. Lunch may be paid daily, weekly, or monthly. Free and
reduced meals continue from last year, but you will need to complete new
forms.
Spring
Pictures Will Be Taken on March 19
All students will have the opportunity to have their photo
made. No order forms are necessary. Please mark your claendars
for picture day. Parents may look before they buy and return those
photos they do not wish to purchase.
Fellowship of Christian
Athletes will host a Gym Day on February 20 from
3:30 until 5:30. Tickets will go on sale Monday, February 16.
Plan now to come and have pizza, coke floats, music, games, and fun- all
for $3.00!
Lock Up Your Medicine to Prevent Children's
Prescription Drug Abuse
More
than 3.1 million teens ages 12 to 17 report abusing prescription drugs.
Did you know?
Over 3 million
u.s.
teens abuse prescription drugs.
every day, 3,300 more children begin experimenting with prescription
drugs.
70% of children who abuse prescription drugs admit to getting them
from family or friends
LOCK YOUR MEDS
Prevent your children from abusing your own medication by securing your
meds in places your child cannot access.
TAKE INVENTORY
Download your Home
Medicine Inventory Card, write down the name and amount of medications
you currently have and regularly check to see that nothing is missing.
EDUCATE YOURSELF
& YOUR CHILD
Learn about the most commonly
abused types of prescription medications (pain relievers, sedatives,
stimulants and tranquilizers). Then, communicate the dangers to your child
regularly; once is not enough.
SET CLEAR RULES
& MONITOR BEHAVIOR
Express your disapproval of using prescription drugs without a
prescription. Monitor your child's behavior to ensure that the rules are
being followed.
PASS IT ON
Share your knowledge,
experience and support with the parents of your child's friends. Together,
you can create a tipping point for change and raise safe, healthy and
drug-free children.
PROPERLY DISPOSE
OF OLD AND UNUSED MEDICATIONS
For the latest guidelines on
safe and proper disposal of medications, go to fda.gov/consumer
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR
CHILD ALREADY HAS A PROBLEM
If you suspect your teen is using drugs, do not wait
to do something about it. Visit the Substance Abuse & Mental Health
Services Administration at www.findtreatment.samhsa.gov
for a listing of treatment centers in your area, or call (800) 662
- HELP (4357).
If
you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact the school
nurse, counselor, or administrator.
Art
Recently,
the Art III class completed an assemblage drawing of an Indian
warrior. An image was chosen, but into 40 one-inch squares, and then
students were responsible for enlarging and redrawing them into eight-inch
squares. The completed squares were then reassembled and the entire
project was hung near the cafeteria entrance. Students who worked on
the project are listed in a grid which indicates which square they
completed. See below.
