We would like to take this opportunity to welcome each of you to Woodstation Elementary School. As WES-PTO board members, it is among our responsibilities to talk with you about our organization, enroll you as a member, and very importantly, encourage you to get involved in your school. But first, since this may be the first time at WES for many of you, it is important for us to explain what the WES-PTO is all about.

What is the PTO and who can be a Member?
Our WES-PTO is our parent-teacher organization that strives to enhance your children’s educational experiences. We have a membership drive each year to get families involved. 100% of the money we receive from memberships goes directly back to the library for the purchase of books. Last year, through your willingness to be involved we donated $1,000.00 to our library! Don’t worry, becoming a member does not mean you automatically sign up to volunteer, it just means you support our group and believe in what we’re doing. Please fill out the membership form located below and return it along with your membership donation to PTO via your teacher. Thank you in advance for your continued support each year!

We hope you will take advantage of the family time we are able to provide this year. Please see our monthly newsletter for family opportunities. We hope you were able to attend our Welcome Back Skate Night and we hope you we able to stop by our table during open house so we could introduce ourselves. We will continue sponsoring the Star Buck Store and we will provide any assistance needed to the Renaissance Program. Periodically throughout the year PTO provides lunch or snacks for yearlong teacher and staff appreciation. We feel this is a very important part of our role in the school and it sure does bring a smile to the faces of all!

PTO has a collecting program called Program Collectibles. This program has grown from a few box tops to something that rose over $2,000.00 last year. We accept many different items through collecting and try to make it as easy as possible. Collecting seems so little but when you add it up it is amazing! Please see the attached collectibles list for the many ways to help WES. Be on the lookout for contests and goals throughout the year!

We will introduce new ways for our students to help the community this year. Community service is very important to us and we want to teach that importance to our students as well. We will begin the Double Bag Lunch Program in October. We will ask students to bring in a non-perishable food item periodically throughout the year and PTO will then donate to the food bank. We also will collect necessities and supplies for our local Ronald McDonald House. At different times during the year we will supply their list of items needed and deliver your donations. All year long we will be doing some type of community service project and hope you will support us in this effort.

Become a Volunteer…Why YOU should get involved!
As you can see, we are a busy group. This is where you can come in! We need your help, and so do your children. Please complete the PTO volunteer form, indicate what events/activities interest you, and we’ll contact you to discuss it further. Volunteering doesn’t have to mean a huge time commitment. We understand it is increasingly more difficult to find time to give, but please, whatever your time schedule allows, we have need of you.

Stay Connected all year
Always check your agendas daily and your Wednesday folders weekly. We will send home paper flyers, our newsletter & fundraising info through one of those means. New this year is our email service. If you would like to receive emails regarding opportunities please fill out that section on either the membership or volunteer form. “Like” PTO of Woodstation Elementary on Facebook for updates and information. Text WESAlert to 82672 & follow the instructions that follow. During times of extreme weather the text system is the quickest way to receive information! We have a communication tool that will work for you…stay connected!

In conclusion
Our PTO is certainly about more than bake sales! We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers, administrators and support staff can do their best work – and so can our children. We invite you to join us for our PTO Meetings in the library. Childcare will be provided and our meetings last about an hour. We look forward to meeting you!

On behalf of the WES-PTO we would once again like to extend a warm welcome and best wishes for a successful school year!

Sincerely,
Your WES-PTO Team!
