GEORGIA PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP ACT: CATOOSA COUNTY SCHOOLS

What is the Georgia Promise Scholarship Act?

The Georgia Promise Scholarship Act, enacted in 2024, provides eligible families with financial assistance to pursue alternative education options, including private schooling. Schools qualify for the program based on prior performance on the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI).

How does a school become eligible?

A school is included on the eligibility list if its average performance over the past two years places it in the bottom quartile of Georgia schools on the CCRPI. This determination is based on historical data, not current-year performance.

Note: The state did not include select alternative school student achievement data when compiling the Promise School list. However, for full transparency and accountability, CCPS does include and report all alternative school student data to the state, even though it impacts overall school achievement data.

What is CCRPI?

CCRPI is the Georgia Department of Education’s accountability tool for measuring how well schools prepare students for college and careers. It evaluates schools based on four key areas: content mastery, student progress, closing achievement gaps, and overall readiness.

What Catoosa County schools are on the eligibility list?

Lakeview Middle School

May a student attend a public school and receive the Georgia Promise Scholarship for tutoring services?

No, a student currently enrolled in a public school is ineligible to receive the Georgia Promise Scholarship.

What steps is CCPS taking to improve student achievement?

CCPS is dedicated to ensuring all students receive a high-quality education and has implemented strategic initiatives to support student success, including:

  • Comprehensive School Improvement Plans focusing on engagement, rigorous instruction, and student achievement growth.
  • Collaborative professional learning communities where educators work together to refine instructional strategies.
  • Data-driven interventions using assessment tools to identify and address learning gaps.
  • Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to provide targeted interventions for students needing additional academic assistance.
  • Strong family and community partnerships to reinforce learning and student development.

Statement from Superintendent Nix

"Parents, we acknowledge the concern surrounding the Georgia Promise Scholarship eligibility list and the states’ exclusion of achievement data from students in alternative and completion schools in producing this list.

At CCPS, we are committed to full transparency and accountability. We report all student achievement data, including that of our alternative school students, back to the home school so all students are accounted for and actively supported through targeted local school improvement plans, enhanced teaching strategies, and strengthened family partnerships.

We want to be clear: this list does not accurately represent the capabilities of our students or the unwavering commitment of our educators. We know your child's ability is not defined by a single test score.

We also want to be crystal clear that we are actively addressing this issue through focused improvement initiatives like innovative instructional approaches, and a strong partnership with our families. We are committed to providing amazing educational opportunities for every child, every day, without exception." -Chance Nix, CCPS Superintendent
